You might like to ask yourself:
What is the function of this behaviour?
What does it serve?
You might also like to ask:
How did it arrive?
And what keeps it going now?
Then you might like to ask:
How much do I really want to give it up?
Am I giving it up because I want to – or because someone is asking me to?
Your therapist might then ask you:
How much work are you willing to put in to stop it?
How uncomfortable are you prepared to feel?
Who are you prepared to be?
You could start by focusing for a moment
On the freedom you will feel
The freedom to be yourself
Do not forget,
Maintaining addiction requires a lot of work!
So take a moment now
To allow your imagination to bask
In the gains of this new found freedom
In the prospect of new found possibilities
