Diagnosing your Mindset
For some, obtaining a diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, GAD, etc.,) can be very helpful, validating and liberating
For others, it can feel damning
For some, it can inspire change and learning
For others, it can provide a reason to stop trying
Obviously, it is not that black and white
There are parts of us that take on both of these perspectives
However, thinking about your MINDSET can be helpful
At any particular moment you can ask:
Am I adopting a FIXED or GROWTH mindset?
A FIXED mindset believes that things such as intelligence, talents, temperaments, etc
Cannot be changed
And in this mindset
Setbacks are seen as failures
Proof you cannot change
A GROWTH mindset sees failures and setbacks as opportunities for learning
This mindset believes that a person’s true potential is actually unknown.
In this mindset
Obtaining help and utilising good strategies
Are what’s important
We need to be careful interpreting diagnoses
A diagnoses can help you learn more about yourself
Help you work out what tool-shed you need to visit
But it is also important to understand
That a psychological diagnosis is not fixed
And some are known to change over time
