How to get to sleep when anxious or stressed

Making Friends with Sleep

Sleep has been trying to find you
Sleep wants to embrace you
Sleep will not stop
Until it has subsumed you

Sleep wants to take you on a dream
On a journey far far away from your thoughts
There is nothing in the world sleep loves more
Than to share with you
The mysterious depths of your rich unconscious

But sleep can sometimes fall out of favour
With all the tossing and turning
The envy and yearning
It can seem fickle and fragile
And sometimes even seem unkind
When it cannot find you

Sometimes you can get so preoccupied with sleep
That when you see it on the horizon
You can become consumed by fear, anger, anxiety
Stage fright can fill your body
You might even decide that its easier to just avoid it altogether

Try to be kind to sleep
Its not perfect
Try to make friends with it
And where you can
Do the right thing

Sleep is patiently waiting
Longing to be with you
So give it some clues
Close your eyes
And go to those places in your mind
Where sleep is most likely to find you
