How to reduce anxiety

Anxiety

What do you do when all your thinking
And all your worrying
Makes you so tense and so nervous
You cant sleep properly?

What do you do
When you feel overwhelming panic
And you cant tell anyone
Because the thought of doing so makes you feel more anxious?

How do you tell your body
And your mind
To stay calm
When your heart is racing
And your thoughts feel so important?

It is important to remember that the purpose of anxiety is to protect
Strange as it may seem
Anxiety is a companion
Trying to keep you safe
Without it, humans would not survive

Maybe some of your anxiety has actually helped you get through your life?
Made you conscientious
Helped you get to places on time
Help you remember other people’s feelings

So we do not want to get rid of it completely

But we do not want anxiety to get so strong
That you cant rest and enjoy the moment

And we do not want it to create avoidance in your life
Or engage in habits and behaviours that only serve to make things worse

Anxiety is a very common problem
And a lot of research has gone into working out ways of managing it

For example, researchers have discovered that for anxiety to exist, TWO essential ingredients are needed:
1) You need to imagine the worst case scenario will happen
2) You need to believe you do not have the resources to cope when that scenario happens

Now if you lose one of those two essential ingredients
Anxiety will lose its grip on you

You may as well tap into the rich pool of knowledge about anxiety
How it works, how it is maintained, and how it can be managed

And you never know
It might be an interesting and exciting journey for you to discover these things
